Tattoo session
Tattoo session
For your upcoming tattoo appointment, please use the list below to ensure you're prepared the day of, especially for our traveling clients.
Do not go if you're ill | Be well rested
If you are sick, please, please, stay home. Not only will you feel terrible getting tattooed if you’re not well, but you could also spread the illness around the studio very easily and possibly end up affecting all of those around you, especially while being in close contact with your artist for hours at a time. As well as valuing health, healing a fresh tattoo while your body is already fighting an infection can compromise you, your illness and the tattoo altogether. Please call or message us immediately to inform your artist of any illnesses in order to reschedule your appointment for another day.. We will give you priority in our schedule to get you back in for your tattoo appointment once you're feeling better. If you are visibly unwell and do not inform your artist, we may cancel your appointment upon your arrival.
Eat beforehand | Pack essentials
Please be sure to eat something wholesome and carbohydrate-based before your appointment to keep your blood sugar levels elevated and to help keep you feeling alert without any sluggish, faint or drowsiness for the next few hours. As needles pump in and out of the skin, it is been known to cause a drop in our blood sugar levels, which can lead to potential nausea, fainting and even seizures. Although we cannot allow food and drinks [except water] in the tattooing area, make sure to bring a few snacks during breaks. However, do not drink too much caffeine as it is a powerful stimulant. For long tattoo appointments, it is common for our clients to also bring along with them a fully charged cell phone, a charger, tablet, headphones or even kindle or a great book.
Avoid alcohol | Stay Hydrated
Not only will you likely feel poorly while getting a tattooed hungover, but alcohol levels in your blood will probably still be elevated from the night before and with these excess blood alcohol levels it can thin your blood causing excessive bleeding during your tattoo session. Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment.
Avoid sunburns | Do not use tanning beds
Skin that is sunburned is already very damaged. The extra blood that is sitting around the area trying to repair the burnt skin will conflict with ink dilution, saturation and the visibility of the tattoo. We will not cause further damage to your skin.
Shower/Bathe | Do not shave
Please, ensure your hygiene and cleanliness, but do not put any lotions, creams or make-up on or around the area to be tattooed. If your skin needs to be shaved, your artist will do so for you as we don’t want any risk of cutting your skin or getting razor burn before arriving at the studio. We also would like to remind our clients to dress comfortably, but appropriately for the desired location of the tattoo for your tattoo appointment and to avoid wearing favourite clothing items or white.
Ask your artist about pain relief
If you’re thinking of applying a skin numbing product before getting to the studio, make sure you have a conversation about it first with your artist. Some numbing products can cause complications, temporary changes to the outer layers of skin, which can affect how well an artist might be able to tattoo your skin. If you've spoken to your artist about numbing creams and products, please allow time to set for a minimum of one [1] hour prior to coming in for your appointment.
Get comfortable
It’s inevitable that during a long session you’ll likely have to move about a little bit. If you feel like you need to move, let your artist know beforehand so she can pull the needles away from your skin to prevent any accidents. Likewise, if you need to cough or sneeze, please try to let your artist know first. While we know some tattoo placements require awkward positioning, we absolutely want you to feel as at ease and relaxed as possible without getting too uncomfortable.
Communicate with your artist
We are a fairly sociable studio and if you're a conversationalist, we are absolutely more than happy to share stories and laughs with you. If we aren’t singing or focused, we usually try to make conversation, no matter how frivolous. Please, don’t be afraid to let your artist know if you’re slightly nervous or however you may be feeling and please, ask any questions you may have as well.
Do not be afraid to ask for a break
Even the toughest, strongest of people sometimes reach a breaking point where the pain just becomes too much. Getting a tattoo can also feel overwhelming and stressful, which can heighten the pain. Your artist may take breaks during the session, but if you’re starting to struggle, are getting hungry or need to grab a drink, let your tattoo artist know so she can pause for a short break. Also, please let your artist know if you’re feeling ill or faint as they may advise you to lay down for a few minutes, eat/drink or step outside for fresh air to help you feel better before continuing with the rest of the procedure.
If you have any further questions or concerns when preparing for your tattoo appointment, please feel free to contact us at any time, or you may read through our F.A.Q. section and/or our policies and procedures for answers and more information.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
